In the middle of a constantly moving city, if you’re longing for an urban groove that isn’t overly loud yet naturally makes your body sway, then you absolutely cannot miss the shining soul gem that is XinU.
The stage name “XinU” carries the beautiful meaning of “a crossing point between X and you (U).” Since her debut in 2021, she has quickly built a strong reputation across Asia’s indie music scene with her highly distinctive “transparent smoky voice” and a unique sound blending R&B, jazz, and soul music. Now, after officially joining a major label in 2025, XinU is set to return to Taiwan this June.
Part of XinU’s musical charm comes from a vocal quality often described as possessing a “1/f fluctuation.” This natural frequency—found in ocean waves and the sound of wind rustling through trees—resonates with human brainwaves, bringing a deep sense of relaxation and healing.
Alongside her naturally gifted voice, XinU was introduced to music from the age of three through relatives who worked as piano teachers. During childhood, she was also deeply inspired by the immersive and emotional performances of traditional Japanese “Taishu Engeki” theater, planting the seeds of her love for the stage. During university, she performed at jazz bars and became passionate about a cappella music. After sharing a cappella videos online, she caught the attention of renowned producer M-Swift (Shohei Matsushita). That fateful encounter became the starting point of her musical journey.
XinU’s musical vision has never been limited by borders. She collaborated internationally with influential South London producer edbl on one of her signature songs, “Wana,” whose music video was filmed in Taiwan. She also boldly reached out to American pop duo joan after watching their live performance, resulting in “Butterfly,” a song filled with nostalgic 80s and 90s-inspired sounds.
For Taiwanese fans, XinU feels especially close and familiar. Beyond visiting Taiwan multiple times for music video shoots, she held a small solo concert at Pipe Live Music in 2024, followed by a successful headline performance at Taipei’s Breeze MEGA Studio in early 2025. Taiwan has become an essential piece of her musical journey. Another memorable moment for Taiwanese listeners was her collaboration last year with Taiwanese artist Lee Yinghong on the standout single “Monday Afternoon.” Their lighthearted cross-national duet beautifully captured the charm of musical exchange between Taiwan and Japan.
The year 2025 marked a major turning point for XinU. She officially joined the major label King Records / HEROIC LINE and released her first major-label EP, XinU EP #04. The release stands as a defining work in her career, featuring collaborations with rising artist Aile The Shota. Among the tracks, the lead song “Monday to Friday” confidently and vividly captures the emotional ups and downs of modern city life throughout the week.
XinU once described the core purpose of her music as “wanting to gently give people a little push forward.” Through honest and emotionally direct Japanese lyrics combined with irresistible grooves, her music naturally becomes a warm yet powerful companion for listeners navigating complicated everyday lives.
On June 17, XinU will perform at Billboard Live TAIPEI for the very first time. Compared to the distance of large arenas, the venue’s premium acoustics and intimate atmosphere provide the perfect setting to fully experience the beauty of her extraordinary voice.
Are you ready to accept this soulful invitation from Tokyo? Come spend a summer night immersed in XinU’s gentle rhythms and let her music embrace every emotion within you—helping you rediscover the strength to move forward once again.
